06 Jun New Story: Changing the Narrative of West Virginia
We are wanting to raise $800 to help fund an educational trip to get to West Virginia University's Reed College of Media Innovation Center in Morgantown, WV on June 9, 2016. More information can be found here with this link:https://newstorywv.splashthat.com We want to learn innovative ways to implement community revitalization through using media sources. One way to achieve this is through creating a community blog which is an interest of ours. The $800 would cover the cost of gas, food, and a one night stay in a hotel for three community members who are male leaders in the community of McDowell County, West Virginia. McDowell County has severe poverty and there people have limited access to resources. The community members are working very hard to learn ways to restore their environments so they can thrive instead of just trying to survive. We hope to attend this conference and represent our interests as a community and learn what we can do to improve the situations caused by poverty here in the coalfields of rural southern WV.
