17 Oct Empowering Style. The Celebrity Wishmaker Simonetta Lein Meets Entrepreneur and Founder of Bliss Maimah Karmo
“Bliss, it is also a choice. Simonetta Lein”
I love social media because when you use it well it can lead you to meet amazing people. This is how I found out about Maimah Karmo, a woman on a mission. We started to follow each other on Twitter and I was immediately attracted by her magazine’s name: Bliss. I dug into her life and I discovered that Maimah is a cancer survivor, a mom, entrepreneur, and the founder of the Tigerlily Foundation. I thought: how strong must a woman be that after going through cancer she started a project called Bliss? That is what she is, strong and I might add amazing.
“I was hit by lightning; escaped three wars; came to America as a refugee with only one suitcase at 15 years old; achieved the American Dream, and just when I thought I could exhale, I was diagnosed with aggressive breast cancer and watched it all fall apart again. I was the single mother of a three year old and I thought I was going to die. This is where God found me, broke me open, filled me up and put me back together again. I became a soul on fire!!! I left a six-figure salary to live my life in service to others and it’s been a wonderfully, crazy, miraculous roller-coaster… Good Morning America, Oprah (twice), a best-selling book, speaking engagements, magazines, but most importantly, I found God and create MY BLISS. “
Maimah is a beautiful and empowering woman. I love her message and her story. As a fashionista, I see in her look the perfect career woman (that she is) and I think I can share with you some of her bliss boss style tips.
Who are you and what is the name of your business?
I’m a mother, an entrepreneur, philanthropist, gypsy and bliss giver. I have several businesses. Tigerlily Foundation (www.tigerlilyfoundation.org) is the non-profit organization I founded after being diagnosed with breast cancer, which supports young women – before, during and after breast cancer. Bliss Magazine (www.pureblissmag.com) is my quarterly digital publication, focusing on inspiring people to see, create and live bliss! I’m also a life coach and speaker. You can learn more about my work and book me for coaching or speaking at www.maimahkarmo.com.
What is your brand about?
My work is focused on inspiration, empowerment and transformation. I knew from an early age that I wanted to spend my life helping and loving others. It’s too bad they didn’t have a course for that in school! I still found my way. Both Tigerlily Foundation and Bliss Magazine focus on transforming people’s lives and I love that I get to inspire people to “wake up” and live their lives every day, no matter what challenges they face.
What is your mission?
My life’s mission is focused on being a catalyst for people – inspiring and empowering them to be the change they seek in the world; and to pursue their bliss.
Are you a Millennial? What do you think about Millennials?
I am a young mom but I am a generation Xer and I look at Millennials with admiration. Millenials are a powerful force to be reckoned with. They are savvy, smart and ready to rule the world. They are also innovators, seeking to make real world change. I love that millennials also are committed to philanthropy and community.
If you are here it means that you love fashion. Why?
I love fashion because everyone has their unique style.. and having the right clothes and accessories allow you to play with life. Fashion allows you to try on different costumes and have fun. Also, who doesn’t like to look fab?
**Here is my “Empowering style” collection for Maimah: simple, effective, the research of accessories is perfect and show the confidence of an empowered woman.
In the first picture Maimah is speaking at an event, she wears a beautiful elegant and shiny dress that gives her a stunning look, sparkles the details and she doesn’t need to add anything if not a light make up. Just beautiful.
In the second picture she wears a total red outfit. Simple and casual lines, perfect for a business woman. Every detail is researched, from the red nail polish to the red lipstick. Adding some gold and simple jewelry she sparkled her look a bit and make it perfect for a day of work or for a cocktail with some friends. What shoes is she wearing? Again, elegant, young and appropriate.
In the last picture Maimah is with her friend Rachel Wright at her foundation event. She wears a white suit, simple lines where she can show in a very sophisticated way her curves. A nice necklace and a light make up complete the outfit. Way to go Maimah!
What cannot be missed from your wardrobe?
Lots and lots of shoes! I love shoes…and am not designer agnostic. If they’re colorful and complement my style, I’m all about it!
** I want to do a next issue only on your shoes tips, promise?
What is your style and what can you not stand in people, inside and out?
My style is casual sexy… I’m not married to name brands, but what looks good and feels good. I can do jeans and a t-shirt or black tie, just as easily. In terms of people… I don’t like dishonesty, pretense, ego-driven people, or people who are mean to others.
What is your fashion mantra?
My fashion mantra is easy, effortless sexy elegance.
What is that magic word that speaks about you and only you can show it to our readers?
My magic word is included in four words: “Bliss, Transcendence, Vision-focused and Faith!”
What is a wish that you would commit to grant this year to someone paying it forward?
I wish that we could cure cancer. As the President and Founder of a breast cancer organization, it hurts to lose so many young women to breast cancer. I want to raise more funds, in order to educate, inspire and advocate for young women.
