FE: Expand your brand in fashion

07 Jan FE: Expand your brand in fashion

“Thank you M. Cardin for opening me the doors to fashion and for making my dream possible,” Jean Paul Gaultier

This week we raise our champagne flute to the French father of fashion branding, Pierre Cardin. M. Cardin who made his name by selling designer clothes en masse, and his fortune by being the first to expand and brand his name for selling everything from cars to perfume, died on Tuesday. (He seems to be the inspo for the season finale of “Emily in Paris” as well!) https://youtu.be/Txx-wXZZLSM

In a vast and varied career, Cardin drew admiration and contempt from designers for his bold business sense, and influenced catwalks with his space-age bubble dresses and geometric patterns (that even inspired his icon home/event space towering over Cote d’Azur, photo by AkashaLin during a pre-pandemic visit).

Cardin, who was a mentor to designers such as Jean Paul Gaultier, was active in fashion circles until the end, taking young designers under his wing, attending soirees and regularly visiting his Paris office via Jaguar.
Cardin was the first designer to sell clothes collections in department stores and the first to enter the licensing business for perfumes, accessories and food, which sparked profits for other fashion houses.
“They said pret-a-porter will kill your name, and it saved me!” ~Pierre Cardin

Voila, merci M. Cardin for your creativity, perspective and timeless inspo.
So, how can you expand your creativity and brand to reach a wider audience?
Thanks for reading and we welcome your comments below.
