26 Feb Be a Friend to YOU
Sometimes I think I sound like a broken record with this “be your own best friend” stuff, but the longer I live and the more I go through it seems to be the most vital thing we can do.
Why do we insist on treating ourselves so harshly?
I spent many years of my life thinking horrible thoughts about myself and my body – things I never would have thought about anyone else.
Next week I’m talking to 125 students about the Joy Project and mental fitness, I was getting a bit panicked that what I had prepared wouldn’t be good enough. Had to remember that if I go into it supporting myself like a good mate rather than an enemy it will all be ok.
So next time you are criticising your body, comparing yourself to others or beating yourself up over something you did wrong ask “how would I treat a friend that I loved in this situation?” And opt for that instead.
